Before coffee becomes a drink, it must be carefully harvested and gently roasted. There are different types of coffee, and each has its own roasting options, which lead to very own and unique taste experiences.
The green coffee beans change color during roasting. First, they turn yellow and then brown. The longer they are roasted, the darker they become. The beans turn black with the strongest roasts. The heat also affects the taste and smell of the beans. It releases aromatic oils that are responsible for the taste of the coffee. The light roast gives a mild taste. It is mostly chosen for the best quality beans because it respects the original flavor. The lightest roast is “Light Cinnamon.” The medium roast has more body and less acidity than a light roast. It is also called “American Roast”. “City Roast” is the darkest level of medium roast. Dark roasts ensure a distinctive taste; their smoky-sweet taste can even be bitter. French roast beans are almost black. And with “Italian Roast” you get caramelized beans that are black and oily.
Depending on your taste, you can use 100% Arabica or 100% Robusta for your coffee, but the two types together to create a blend. They mix the blend with green beans before roasting.
